Day 9

Woke up to a beautiful morning. After taking the tent down and getting ready to pump up tires it was noted the rear tire was flat. The tube i had put in yesterday had 2 patches and this am it was noted that the rubber around the valve stem had eroded. New tube in then off to breakfast.
Nice ride with 53 deg weather tostart.... More feed lots and field. Some of the fields with corn, hay and clover. Others idle or with dried up crops. There has been a bad drought here and according to the "curator" at the museum we visited last night, the farmers can't plant the winter wheat since it is so dry. Apparently the redervoirs and rivers usually used for irrigation are dried up.
Lunch stop was at the unincorperated town of Pierceville at 41 miles, 1030 am.... We all beat the truck ( except for 3)that was to deliver our sandwiches by half an hour. Watched then dry grain at a grain elevator while we waited.
The other 3 riders apparently missed a turn and went 15 miles to far out of their way. They ate lunch late at a mexican restaraunt in Cimmarron and were sagged in.
Left lunch and headed toward Cimmaron passing the largest feed lot i have ever seen,in Ingalls,ks.
Arrived at Cimmaron and had a chocolate malt in a old fashioned soda fountain in Clarks drug store.... Perfect!
There was road construction from Ingalls to Cimmaron but it was mostly complete and the pavement was smooth as glass.after cimmaron there was only pockets of construction and we arrived at Dodge city communty college where we set up,showered, ate and then found some beer and did laundry.
Bought a new frame pump at walmart, since there is no bike shop in town. Nancys quit working and mine lost a part.forgot to mention... Out of cimmaron i got another flat this time due to a sharp fish hook type wire near the sidewall. Good thing a fellow rider had a goood pump.
Overall it has been a very nice ride so far good company also.
Rest day tomorrow for site seeing!
