Sterling,KS to Hillsboro,KS
Morning was cool with slisht nw wind.
Our cue sheet states "typical flat kansas following more silos to hillsboro" i think it would better serve yesterdays ride than today ie: it was (thankfully)rolling and there were very few silos unlike the day before.
Todau was mostly thru small cattle farms and fields with dead or dying crops of soybeans, corn and sorghum. Guess food prices will be rising.
Our first stop was also be the lunch stop but sunce it was only 27 miles into the ride and we had eaten a large breakfast we didn't stop except to take a picture of fellow riders eating pie and drinking coffee.the towns name was Inman.
We (and others) continued on toward Canton,Ks, whichbwas listed as the backup spot for lunch.at about mile 49 we were getting low on water and spitting the Emmanual Bible Church we found a hose bib and filled up. We then continued on to Canton, where we found the local senior citizen center having a fund raising barbeque.many licals from the town were there and we not only ate well but enjoyed their company, asking them questions about the town /area and them inquiring of our cycle tour.
It turns oyt it had finally rained last week after a summer with 58 days over 100 deg sometimes into the one-teens. Too much rain and too late in the year.
After lunvh we headed toward Tabor college in hillsboro where we will camp tonight. Showered, washed todays clothes and ate supper after a walk around a dead/dying business disrict in town. Homes though are well maintained.
It was announced tonight at dinner that they would be closed for breakfast and we would have to resort to plan b option.... Wendys or subway in town.
Supper,though was very good.
Todays ride was 73 miles. Tomorrow: off to council grove,ks where we also have a rest day on sunday. E
