Happy fall equinox everyone!
The day started out with rain sprinkles as we took down the tent. After breakfast, with rain gear packed, we headed out towardLarned,Ks. Temp was 50 deg with a 10 mph headwind that increased as the day went on to about 20mph.
Passed a 100 megawatt windmill farm at spearfield and continued riding to Kingsley where we stopped in a sod house and museum on the oytskirts of kingsley. 2 miles later we ate lunch in a convenience store, around mile 37.
Continud down rte56 with heavy truck traffic with wide loads and no shoulder. We turned onto 183 which had scant traffic but at about mile 48 of the day it started sprinkling. Donned raingear in time for a steady showe for the next 15 miles.
Arrive at Fort Larned, a nicely restored fort that helped protect traders on the santafe trail for 19 years.spent about an hour waljing thru the buildings and viewing the museum exhibits. The rain had stopped by the time we arrived there.
Headwd out and toward the town of Larned where we set up camp at the city park. Beautiful park with duck/geese pen, rose garden, fountain and showers.
Dinner was provided by the local Lions club in an outdoor courtyard. A local historian gave a talk on the town and gave a short walking tour.
It has dropped to about 54 deg as i write and is to drop to 46 tonight.
Ride today was 71 miles. Tomorrow off to Sterling,Ks only 60 miles with an alleged partial tailwind. E
