Another beautiful day riding on the Snta Fe trail with the santafe (bnsf) tracks on the right and I25 to the left. On the very distant left is the Sangre de Christo mountain range. We have been riding in the beautiful high plains area at about 6000 ft above sea level.beautiful vistas of buttes nd mountains under the unequaled new mexican sky. As their license plates state "the land of enchantment".
First stop today in Springer,nm for a mid morning snack at brown cafe/hotel and to get sandwich to go for lunch in about 15 miles in miami,nm. Snack was good, sandwich soso.but it did supply us the energy for the climb to Philmont boy scout camp,137,000 acres of donated land to the scouts.
We beat what looked like a thunderstorm in and selected a tent for the night.... With electric and wifi! Trouble is need code for WiFi so not able to use it. The storm disipated and we toured the villa of the benefactor an 18000 ft "summer cottage". Three model N fords fully restored in the garage.
Supper in the dining room adequate ( not the best for Nancy, tired of beans & rice)and the the ride meeting" breakfast is at 7. Then off to "bear proof" the tents...removing any food artices since black bears are a big problem here this year.
Tomorrow we head to trinidad, colorado after a climb up and over the raton pass, elevation 7800 ft about an 8-10 mile climb (depending on the source)
Todays weather was in the low 80's eith 20% humidity.
